Question Tags –
There is a short question in the last of the sentence of statement or command,
it is called Question tag or Tail Question or Appended Question or Disjunctive
Question.
Rule of making
Question Tags –
There are four rules to make Question Tags –
1. Rules regarding the Subject
2. Rules regarding the Verb
3. Rules regarding the Negativity
4. Rules regarding Weak Verb Forms
Rules regarding the Subject –
ⓐ If the subject of the main clause is any Personal Pronoun then that pronoun is the subject of
Question tag.
e.g. –
I was ready, wasn’t I?
They were late, weren’t they?
You can do it, can’t you?
We are mortal, aren’t we?
ⓑ If the subject of the main clause is this/that, it changes into ‘it’
and the subject of the main clause is those/these, it changes into ‘they’.
e.g. –
This is difficult, isn’t it?
That is easy, isn’t it?
These are for sale, aren’t they?
Those are your books, aren’t
they?
